The exhibition's theme of “a perfect world” is inspired by today's way of life in which all of society is to some extent controlled by advertisements showing “successful people” going on vacation to exotic places in order to, if only for a moment, escape the empty world of business or politics for an even more empty rest at a luxury hotel on a luxuriously equipped beach – only to soon return to their everyday reality of unending meetings and negotiations.
Many artists have responded in many different ways to this way of life, which often loses all meaning and whose participants hurry from one useless meeting to another thinking that they are working. And yet, somewhere deep in their souls they must feel the absolute emptiness of this life, which often leaves nothing positive behind except perhaps their extensive assets (or also debts).
Artists have chosen a variety of media and technologies (painting, sculpture, drawing, collage, photography, video, and performance or installation art) in order to share – sometimes with a sense of exaggeration – their views on the questionable values of contemporary society, on endless television debates about nothing, on the relentless repetition of tedious and uninteresting political news and information, on insufferable online discussions, and on cheap entertainment designed exclusively to pass the time. Sometimes they transcend the boundaries of artistic fields in order to express their views as precisely as possible.
